Put on your hiking boots and explore the amazing trails around Thredbo. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned hiker, there’s a trail for you. You can walk and hike the country’s most incredible alpine trails and enjoy the natural beauty of Australia’s highest mountains this summer while feasting your eyes on the breathtaking views around the snowy mountain. Choose a family-friendly hike to the top of Mt Kosciuszko, or try one of the Snowy Mountain Bucket List Hikes such as Mt. Kosciuszko Hike and Alpine Lakes Hike. There are also hikes where you can enjoy sunset to stargaze like the New Moon Hike and Aries Tor at Sunset. Thredbo is a paradise for mountain bikers, and the Thredbo Valley Track is perfect for a family ride. With gentle slopes and stunning scenery, this track features over 40kms of graded downhill and cross-country trails for the whole family to enjoy.

Family Friendly MTB Trails

Sidewinder
Check out one of Thredbo’s new gravity mountain bike trails, Sidewinder. This trail offers riders of all abilities a fun and exciting downhill thrill.

Starting at the top of the Merritts Gondola, the gravity flow trail wraps around the side of the mountain, passing incredible terrain and fantastic views before finishing at either Friday Flat or Valley Terminal.

Grasshopper
Opened in 2022,  Grasshopper is an alternative trail to Lower All Mountain that takes in the east side of the Cruiser chairlift ridge.

There are a lot of trails to explore around Thredbo. If you’re a beginner you can try checking out the easy gravity trails such as Easy Rider, Sidewinder, Centre Link, and Woodys.

For the Low Intermediate bikers who are confident enough in riding off a small gutter or over small roots and rocks, tackle the flow-style blue trails in this order: Grasshopper, Kosciuszko Flow, and Ricochet.

But if you’re one of those bikers who can maintain their momentum and ride through rocky and rooty sections of the trails, and are looking to increase speed on technical sections while learning to ride jumps and drops, the Paparazzi, Flow Link, Lower All-Mountain, and Upper All-Mountain are the trails for you to enjoy.

3. Fun at the Thredbo Leisure Centre:

When outside weather doesn’t permit you to enjoy outdoor activities, head to the Thredbo Leisure Centre and take a dip in the pool, hit the waterslide and splash in the water play area, or test your skills on the giant inflatable obstacle course. It’s a water wonderland for the whole family!

After a dip in the pool, or if you just want to sweat yourself for an adrenaline rush, head to the sports hall for a fun game of basketball, indoor soccer, netball or challenge each other to a game on the ping pong tables. There’s also an extensive gym fully equipped with a variety of weights and cardio training room, providing the rare opportunity to work out at over 1,360m altitude.

Not enough? Try traversing the bouldering wall or book in a session of squash.

Want a bird’s-eye view of the mountains? Hop on the Kosciuszko Chairlift to the top for amazing alpine vistas and start your way there to Thredbo’s alpine hiking tracks including the walkway to Mt Kosciuszko Summit. Enjoy a scenic ride and the incredible views while also riding the Merritts Gondola. This high-speed ride can take eight scenic passengers from the Village to the base of the Cruiser Area in approximately 6 minutes. Ride to the top for incredible mountain views and tasty dining at Merritts Mountain House. Using the Kosciuszko Chairlift and Merritts Gondola is a fantastic way for the family to soak in the beauty of Thredbo without breaking a sweat. 5. Discover the Snowies through a Game of Disc Golf.

Six of the 100 permanent courses scattered across Australia are nestled in the Snowy Mountains between Thredbo and Jindabyne, this region boasts arguably the highest concentration of disc golf courses in the country. Ride the 700m family-friendly Alpine Bobsled track as it twists and turns its way down the mountain while you control the speed with a brake on your sled. Located just a short distance from Valley Terminal along the Merritts Nature Track.

9 years of age and older or over 130 cms tall can ride the Alpine Bobsled on their own. For the kids under 9, you can ride it with a responsible adult.

 

10. Bounce on a Trampoline
