Welcome from the Managers

Dear Members & Guests,

Managers at Boali - Peter, Melanie and Keira.

Managers at Boali
.

Hello and welcome to Boali Lodge, Thredbo, our new home in the heart of the Snowy Mountains. Here at Boali we have been warmly welcomed and we wish to pass on those warm, open arms to you. We know how important family is and with the addition of our little girl we look forward to continuing on the family atmosphere. Here you can find year-round activities and a fantastic base from which to explore Thredbo and its surroundings. With a comfortable bed and all meals inclusive, catered by our fully qualified chef, the friendly, warm environment in the lodge will have you making Boali your home away from home, a perfect holiday experience!

If you need any more reason to come down, here’s a run down month by month…

The walking season starts in November and the resort is so quiet you’ll almost feel as if you have Thredbo to yourself. You can walk the “Merritts nature track” and not see a soul until you reach Eagle’s Nest for a well deserved Devonshire Tea! Towards the end of November the cannonball downhill mountain-bike track opens and on the second weekend in November, the Snowy-ride is traditionally held. During Snowy-ride, 1000s of bikers descend upon Thredbo to raise money for kids with cancer, and a rock concert is put on for them (in the last few years the Angels have played).

December is a great time to bring the kids for school holidays. Kid’s Club activities are running, Santa’s in the village and guided walks are available until the end of April. A guided walk to Kosciuszko doesn’t cost much more then the price of your chairlift ticket and really enhances the experience. Now its time this year to relax, unwind and let our resident Chef & Manager treat you and your family to a stress free Christmas & New Years. Spend time with your family while enjoying a gourmet 7 course meal over laughter and wine.

January & February sees the wildflowers blossoming. Step out into fields of silver snow daises that from a distance look like summer snow drifts! The Blues Festival takes place on the 2nd weekend in January but in February the pace in the resort slows down as the kids go back to school. A perfect time for couples to come.

In March & April the weather is perfect. It’s still a great time to come down for bushwalking, golf, bike riding, fishing & much more! The Easter break & school holidays are on so there’s free entertainment, Kid’s Club and the traditional Easter egg hunt on the Village Green. There’s also a new March music festival being held – “CMC rocks the Snowys”.

May is the month when sounds of Jazz filter through the mountain air. Thredbo’s
Annual Jazz festival is held on the first weekend in May

June of course is what we’ve been waiting for the whole year! It’s when winter finally kicks off. The Winter Season officially starts on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend and runs through until the October long weekend. If you can only get away for a few days at very short notice, why not come down in June & September (shoulder season) — these are quieter times and we can often fit guests in at short notice.

July & August fall in our peak season.

Boali is located just a few metres away from the Kosciuszko express chair & the mighty Supertrail – it’s some of the best skiing in Australia.

We’re open all year round so we hope to see you here!!

Wishing you a fantastic holiday in Thredbo,
Olivia & Jake

History and Organisational Structure of Boali Lodge

Boali opened in 1986.

It is built on the site of the former Rainbow Lodge which was the first fishing lodge built in Thredbo in the 1950s. (The Snowy Mountains Scheme raised a lot of interest in the Snowy Mountains as a place for recreation).

The establishment of Boali was a co-operative effort by a small number of far-sighted people who wanted to create a private, family-oriented lodge ski with up-market facilities that would provide access to the snow at reasonable prices.

The ownership structure is that of a Unit Trust in which there are 147 members. Units change hands at a commercial market price. Initially the membership was split evenly between people from Canberra and from Sydney. Since those early years, membership is now much more widely dispersed.

The overall management of the Trust is in the hands of a Board of 9/10 directors elected for two years on a rotational basis. From within that number a Chair is appointed for a maximum period of 2 years.
